Mission
-- A Tradition of Excellence since 1851
Members of the KENTUCKY
MEDICAL ASSOCIATION share a mission of commitment to the profession and
service to the citizens of this Commonwealth that extends across rural
and urban areas. From solo practitioners to academicians to large, multi-specialty
groups, KMA is the ONLY state association representing every specialty
and type of medical practice in Kentucky.
Effective
Representation & Advocacy
KMA’s
legislative efforts demonstrate success! KMA member physicians' advocacy has resulted in:
- Support from 70% of Kentuckians for medical liability reform and increasing legislative support;
- The nation's leading patient protection and provider fairness laws including: prompt pay, independent external review, any willing provider law and a ban on insurers' all-or-nothing clauses;
- Complete repeal of the physician provider tax in 1999;
- Increases instead of reductions in Medicare Physician Payment;
- Improvements in public health and safety by increasing the state's excise tax on tobacco products and strengthening of the state's mandatory seat belt law;
- Defeat of more than 300 state legislative proposals annually that would be detrimental to patient care and the practice of medicine;
- Ease with which physicians participate in the legislative process through KMA's online Legislative Action Center.
