Kentucky Medical Association
Cancer Committee

The mission of the Cancer Committee is to promote screening, detection, treatment, prevention, and education about the disease of cancer.  This work is done in coordination with partner organizations in Kentucky as well as agencies and departments of state government.

The progress of medical science has resulted in remarkable accomplishments in cancer treatment.  Epidemiological data has confirmed that early detection combined with these treatments has had a significant effect on outcomes.  The increase in prevention activities has played a positive role in dealing with cancer.  Informed patients increase the probability of positive treatment results.  The goal of this site is to share information with treating physicians and interested patients about current work and to provide connections to other information sources about cancer.

Cancer News and Information…

  • "Do All Kentuckians Have Equal Access to Cancer Care" - This is the latest publication of the Kentucky Cancer Consortium. This publication demonstrates the importance of literacy as a barrier to cancer prevention and early detection. In order to be effective in our cancer control efforts, we will need to modify our interventions so that we communicate effectively with different literacy levels.  In doing this, we will be able to ensure equal access to cancer care for all Kentuckians.
