Medicaid to Reinstate 21-Day Hold
posted 3/31/08

Last summer, the Department for Medicaid Services (DMS) temporarily eliminated the 21-day cash management claims hold process .  As of April 4, 2008, DMS will reinstate the 21-day claims hold.

In effort to ease the process, DMS will reinstate the claims hold process on a sliding scale.  Effective April 4, 2008, claims will be required to age two (2) days before being released for payment.  The number of days will increase by an additional two (2) days each week until the 21-day claims hold process is fully reinstated.

The following is a claim age requirement for each week:

April 4, 2008 - 2 days May 9 - 12 days
April 11 - 4 days May 16 - 14 days
April 18 - 6 days May 23 - 16 days
April 25 - 8 days May 30 - 18 days
May 2 - 10 days June 6 - 19 days

The KMA and the Kentucky Medical Group Manager’s Association (KMGMA) Medicaid Workgroup continues to meet monthly with Medicaid to address system-wide concerns.
