The
KMA RFS has
been involved with public health issues and public education. As resident
physicians in busy hospital settings, we see the many devastating, yet
preventable, diseases which plague our state. The KMA RFS Governing Council
has worked with public radio stations across the state to produce a series
of public service announcements aimed at addressing these conditions which
include: radio ads on helmet safety, head injury prevention and the routine
use of seatbelts. The Council plans to expand the announcements in the
future to address such issues as childhood obesity and tobacco use.
With
the current Medical Liability Insurance crisis and the risk of our patients
losing access to quality affordable healthcare, the Council's principal
focus is on increasing membership and grassroots involvement in organized
medicine. The voice of resident physicians is vital to KMA's campaign
for meaningful medical liability reform which will have a huge impact
on our future practice. Stay
informed of the issues and join us in our grassroots campaign. For
up to the minute information on active issues, visit KMA's Legislative
Action Center - issues and legislation, legislative alerts, contact

-
Resident
Representation - Due to KMA and AMA-RFS efforts, hospital
GME Committees and the ACGME Residency Review Committee must
include resident representation.
-
Resident
Work Hours and Supervision - In June 2002, for the
first time the AMA adopted policies with specific definitions,
hours and working conditions for resident physicians.

The
KMA-RFS has approximately 300 resident and fellow members, and is the
only statewide organization for residents which provides an outlet for
exchange of information and ideas and a forum for discussion on issues
affecting resident training and future practice. In-Training members receive
identical benefits as regular Active members at substantial
discounts. A
nominal one-time membership
fee of $40, with no
additional dues for the duration of your residency
will provide membership in the KMA and your county medical society. If
you are not a member, join
