The Kentucky Medical Association is the only association in Kentucky that represents all physicians and patients to the Kentucky General Assembly, the courts, governmental regulatory agencies, the media, and US Congress. The KMA works to protect the practice of medicine in Kentucky and to assure that patients have the access to care that they deserve.
2015 KMA Physicians' Day at the Capitol
Plan to attend the KMA Physicians' Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 18, to demonstrate the power of organized medicine through legislative advocacy. After a morning legislative briefing, participants will visit with legislators to discuss KMA's 2015 legislative agenda. Participants will also have the opportunity to have lunch with lawmakers and earn CME credits by attending an afternoon panel discussion on the pros and cons of using cannabis for medicinal purposes.
This is an exclusive event for KMA and KMA Alliance members only. Participants are responsible for setting appointments with legislators. Appointments can be made by calling 502-564-8100. Please contact Cory W. Meadows, KMA Director of Advocacy & Legal Affairs, if you need assistance identifying your legislators. Be sure to personally invite your legislators to the legislative luncheon. Click here to register.
KMA Physician Advocacy
KMA’s Legislative Advocacy Tips make it easy and convenient for physicians to be an active participant in the legislative process by providing communication tools and resources like the Legislative Action Center. Here members can easily contact their legislators directly about important issues that affect medicine.
KMA also works on behalf of physicians by providing information and products on contracting with insurance companies. The Managed Care section of the KMA website includes resources on building a defensible fee schedule, managed care class action settlement information with compliance requirements and significant Kentucky laws.
Through the KMA Legal Handbook, members are provided with a compilation of the laws and regulations applicable to physicians throughout the state.
KMA Patient Advocacy
The KMA Physician Finder is an easy-to-use search engine that lists KMA members by specialty, location, and name and helps patients to find physicians dedicated to quality patient care.
The KMA website contains a Patient Resources section devoted to offering reliable health-related materials and links for the public. Information can be found on topics such as bone health, diabetes, disaster preparedness, domestic violence, heart disease/stroke, and tobacco/substance abuse.
